The way Marc (Marc Brew Company) likes to make work is unique. It is inclusive, collaborative and with care. Using the company’s unique perspective and knowledge of dance, disability, accessibility and inclusion, we continually challenge performers and organisations expectations of who can dance and how we create dance.
We bring together exceptional artists with and without disabilities to collaborate and share in inclusive dance practice.
You can join Marc and learn more about how to work in this inclusive way through the following programmes.
If you would like to host any of our classes, workshops or training please contact us.
The company offers masterclasses in contemporary dance, classical ballet, Improvisation and choreography.
The company’s methodology uses very clear visual imagery, description and demonstrations in our teachings with the use of set exercises, improvisation and movement translation of existing traditional dance techniques.
We not only teach dancers to dance but to enjoy the freedom of movement and expression through our teaching methods that enables the dancers to think for themselves and apply our teachings to the best that they can do. We believe through difference there are possibilities.
As a company we create an inclusive environment for all to explore the beauty of difference through movement led exploration, creative tasks and learning set material.
This provides the dancers with a new vocabulary that challenges their own expectations and habitual movement patterns that enhances their creativity.
We are particularly interested in restriction and how that enables new and interesting ways of movement possibilities.
Challenging the dancers to explore the awkward beauty of displacement and the differences between comfortable and uncomfortable movements to create solos, duets, trios and group work.
These can be thought of as a series of physical conversations, encounters and interventions that reflect what it is to be human.
In our workshops and residencies, we want to bring the joy of dance back to all.
We are very excited about bringing different people together in an inclusive environment where there is an exchange as we collaborate.
Together we explore the possibilities of difference through movement using various tasks, improvisation and learning set material and sharing of choreographic tools in making work.
We create a trusting and creative environment for all to learn and guide the dancers through movement structures that are supported. There is no wrong, just an opportunity to offer, try, receive and share.
We create a fun learning experience that develops and challenges movement choices and brings people together as a community. This builds confidence, trust and openness to explore the possibilities of dance and disability.
When touring our work, the workshops will link with the performance piece, drawing on ideas and themes explored within the show, which adds an extra layer to the experience.
Our teacher training is designed for teaching dance artists keen to develop their practice in leading integrated dance.
Training takes place in an inclusive and supportive environment for disabled and non-disabled dancers.
Drawing on our company methodology and skill in inclusive dance practice, we create an accessible and trusting environment for each individual to explore their own creative possibilities through dance.
Dancers will explore the translation of existing material, improvisation and how to ensure movement concepts and ideas are inclusive to everybody.
We build confidence, skills and tools for artists to feel equipped to share their learning in their own communities, organisations, institutions and dance establishments.
We delve into inclusive language and discuss how we as a collective can remove barriers to create spaces that are equitable for everybody to feel invited and welcomed to dance.
Our Teacher Training will be an opportunity to have open conversations, ask questions and explore our methods and teaching approaches in a safe and brave space.
