Research and Development – Boys Don’t Dance
We were excited to be back in The Work Room to explore ideas for Marc’s new children’s show – Boys Don’t Dance. Joined by new dancers and an inspiring creative team, we bounced ideas around, testing them with a P6 audience, as well as taking time to head to Movement Park to learn BMX skills for the piece! Boys Don’t Dance is lining up to be an exciting show, stay tuned…
Boys Don’t Dance is a poignant dance theatre show reflecting on Marc’s journey as a boy who defied societal expectations to embrace his love for dance. This new piece is commissioned by Imaginate in partnership with Aberdeen Performing Arts and supported by the Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund.

Creative Scotland Multi-Year Funding Announcement!
We’re delighted to announce that Marc Brew Company will receive Creative Scotland’s Multi Year Funding from April 2026.
We are grateful for this opportunity and recognition of the strategic importance of Marc Brew Company. Such funding enables us to continue creating brave and safe places for collaboration, celebrating disabled and non-disabled artists, and sharing dynamic and emotive contemporary dance that challenges perceptions. Amazing news to end the year and we’re excited to continue our work with this support in 2026!
Creative Scotland is the public body that supports culture and creativity across all parts of Scotland, distributing funding provided by Scottish Government and The National Lottery.
The team were invited by the Busan Cultural Foundation to visit and share their practice. Our Artistic Director Marc Brew, and our Engagement Manager Hayley Earlam, led a week-long residency with Holdingturn, a Busan-based inclusive dance group. The residency concluded with a showcase performance of the work created, which explored Busan’s connection to water — weaving a new work that reflects shared journeys, multicultural dialogue, and the beauty of inclusive movement.
Also during our time in Busan, we hosted an Inclusive Dance Workshop with ‘Beyond Limits: Global Inclusive Arts Workshop’. This created an inclusive arts ecosystem where everyone can come together. Marc and Susan also spoke at an Inclusive Artists Gathering, as part of the ‘Beyond Limits: Global Inclusive Arts Workshop’, creating space to share, learn and grow together through inclusive practice.
It was an inspiring week working with, and meeting so many artists and we hope to continue to collaborate in the future.
Research and Development Trainee – Jay Whitehead
We welcomed Jay Whitehead, a professional disabled artist to the Research and Development of Boys Don’t Dance as a Trainee.
Hayley our Engagement Manager, explains why it’s important to Marc Brew Company to support emerging artists, and Jay was kind enough to share with us how he found the experience in this short film.
Indepen-dance Residency
Our Artistic Director Marc Brew continues to share his unique approach to creating safe creative spaces for inclusive practice, and collaborative training for disabled and non-disabled artists.
Marc has been commissioned by Indepen-dance to create a new work for its professional company. Marc has been working with the dancers to start creating the new piece which will be premiered at next year’s Gathered Together Festival in September.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The 3rd December was International Day of Persons with Disabilities. As we honour this year’s theme, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress” we stand strong in our commitment to making dance, and our community, a place where disabled people are not only included, but valued, represented, and celebrated.

We are wishing you all a wonderful festive season and sending love and light to you all as you welcome in 2026. Thank you for the continued support this year and we are excited to share all our amazing news and opportunities with you in 2026!
