our protection policy

Purpose
Marc Brew Company (MBC) is committed to creating a safe environment for all participants and protecting children, young people, and adults at risk from harm, abuse, and exploitation. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility across all staff, volunteers, and partners.

Scope
This policy applies to all MBC representatives, including trustees, staff, freelancers, tutors, volunteers, and partners.

Core Principles

  • Welfare of participants is the top priority
  • Zero tolerance for abuse, bullying, harassment, or misuse of power
  • Everyone has the right to protection, regardless of background
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
  • All individuals must be treated with dignity and respect

Identifying Safeguarding Concerns

Signs of harm may include physical injuries, emotional abuse, neglect, sexual exploitation, or bullying. Staff should be aware of risks like exploitation, extremism, and modern slavery.

Reporting & Procedures

  • A Designated Person (DP) leads safeguarding
  • All concerns must be reported to a DP
  • In urgent situations, contact social services or police immediately
  • Staff must refer, not investigate concerns

If someone discloses abuse:

  • Listen carefully and take it seriously
  • Do not promise confidentiality
  • Ask minimal, open questions only if needed
  • Record accurately (facts, exact words, date/time)
  • Report immediately to DP
  • If the person is in immediate danger, call 999.
