Join our very own Artistic Director Marc Brew, and our Executive Producer Susan Hay, for Open Conversations: Access in the Room at Studio Theatres. This free session will allow Marc and Susan to talk about how they build inclusive practice into every stage of making work.
Drawing on years of experience creating and producing performance with disabled and non-disabled artists from rehearsal room to tour, they’ll share practical insights into planning, problem-solving and supporting collaborators so that access is part of the process, not an afterthought.
This session is for theatre makers at any stage of their career from new graduates to seasoned practitioners who want to better understand how to work in ways that centre access, care and genuine collaboration. Expect honest conversation, examples from real practice and useful take-aways you can apply to your own work. We’d love to see you there!
Studio Theatre | 5th March 6 – 7.30pm | Tickets are free, and available at captialtheatres.com
This event is supported by EPAD and is part of Capital Theatres artist support programme.
Marc Brew joined BBC World Service‘s Outlook, talking with Asya Fouks about his life and the extraordinary events that helped build Marc’s professional dance career.
This interview touches on Marc’s early life of being the only boy in his rural Australian town that wanted to dance and how he defied expectations and embraced his passion! And later the car accident when Marc was 20, that left him paralysed from the chest down, and he assumed would put an end to his dance career.
After recently touring an Accident / a Life to critical acclaim, a production created with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui that explores this accident, Marc delves into his early childhood for his newest piece Boys Don’t Dance.
This March, Marc Brew and world renowned choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui are back together to bring a stunning new collaboration to the stage – Residence. Premiering on 20th March 2026 at Stadsschouwburg Utrecht, the programme will then tour theatres throughout the Netherlands until 4 June 2026.
The new duet performed by Marc Brew and Nelson Parrish Earl explores themes of resilience, adaptation and reciprocity.
Residence receives its World Premiere as part of this year’s Introdans LARBI programme. Dedicated to the Flemish Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, it maps a journey across two decades: from his first choreography for a classical ballet company to this intimate new duet.
Last month, we had a wonderful production week for Boys Don’t Dance. It was great to see all the creative elements of the show come together and preview to a fantastic school audience at The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen Performing Arts.
One lovely school pupil described the show as “it’s about diversity and freedom of thought, and how anyone can do anything if they try!” With many children commenting after they watched the show that everyone is allowed to dance!
Boys Don’t Dance previews this May before its premiere at Edinburgh International Children’s Festival in June. It then travels to Light the Blue Festival in Aberdeen. The piece is commissioned by Imaginate in partnership with Aberdeen Performing Arts with support from OneRen. Supported by the Scottish Government’s Festivals Expo Fund.
